Moms rock! Happy Mother’s Day!

I got my presents early this morning from Raine and Skye who have been strangely quiet about the whole thing this year right up till now.

Aren’t these the sweetest? Like I always say, it’s the daughters who know what makes Mom happiest. Big hugs for Raine and Skye  !

I don’t have time to write a long, soppy post about the greatness of mothers right now. But let me make this short and sweet. Mothers make the world go round. Moms rock!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mommies out there, no matter where in the world you are.

big time mommy blues

Steev’s been riding his friend’s car to school every day for a couple of weeks now. I don’t know. I can only say it’s against my better judgement but DH seems to think it’s okay.

I seriously need a good helping of anxiety relief every morning when he leaves for college. After I wave him off, I rush back into the house to light some incense and pray to the Buddha to keep him safe.

I don’t trust new drivers, not the ones they churn out these days anyways. So hopefully prayers and a cup of java will help keep the mommy blues away, eh?

thank goodness for this chicken porridge

I’m so glad that McDonald’s has this chicken porridge for days when I just couldn’t bear to look at another hamburger!

Granted it’s not the best jook (porridge) in the world, but I can’t complain ‘cos I don’t have to cook it myself, hehe.

Just sit down and eat. No need to cut up anything, wash anything or cook anything. Heaven.

putting up a show on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is an exciting thought. Imagine a whole day dedicated to pampering Mom and piling her high with gifts. Sounds like a dream come true.

But to be honest, I think it’s become too much of a hype and everyone wants to be seen doing something for their moms on this special day.

But what about the rest of the year? Many don’t even bother calling their moms half the time but they try to put up a show for their friends and family on Mother’s Day.

What’s the use in that?

computer hogs

Steev’s college uses the computer a lot as a means of communicating with their students. Schedules, assignments and announcements are all accessible through the accounts of students and faculty.

Even parents have been encouraged to obtain an account on the system to keep track of their children’s progress at college.

Though the number of workstations they have in the computer lab is not nearly enough to cater to the increasing number of students, I guess the school is still the best they can by installing tools and unix security software for better functionality and protection.

Steev’s biggest complaint is that students tend to hog the workstation at the lab by leaving their account logged in and then disappearing on their lunch break, meaning no one else can use the computer during that time.

mom vs mp3

These days, I shout a lot. Not because I’m angry with my kids but because they can’t hear me with that mp3 player perpetually blasting in their ear. I’m sure my neighbors can hear me better.

3 teens = 3 mp3s stuck in 3 pairs of ears

Apparently if you’re a teen and you don’t have some wire hanging out of your ears, you ain’t cool! I guess that’s a good way to shut out mom and rock to your own tune, eh?

Kids: You don’t have to shout, Mom, we’re not deaf.

Mom: How else can you hear me with that thing blasting in your ear?!! I said, pick up your clothes, you haven’t done it yet!

Kids: Okay.

Mom: Did you hear me??!!

Silence. No, you didn’t, that mp3 is back blasting!! Grrr!!

here comes sushi cigar mommy!

I’ve never made sushi at home before. But since DH brought home stacks of nori (seaweed) sheets, I have no choice but to find a way to use them. They’re big sheets, not the little ones you can crunch as a snack.

So I decided the quickest way to consume them would be to make California rolls and sushi. I’ve done California rolls before. But I don’t have a sushi mat. So I figured I’d be sushi-challenged because of that.

To be honest, I prefer to buy ready-made sushi than bother rolling them myself since we don’t eat it very often anyways. So I really didn’t want to go out and buy a mat that I’ll probably use only once or twice.

So I went ahead and rolled my sushi without a mat. It’s not that difficult and it didn’t come undone as I’d expected. I just pressed it a little harder and it kept its shape very well. I didn’t cut it into smaller pieces but left it the length of the nori sheet.

The kids found this long roll to be quite a novel idea and came back asking for “another sushi cigar please”. Haha, sushi cigar mommy, that’s moi. Happy Tuesday tooting, y’all!

a good vacation place

Yikes, two weeks to the next school holidays. Have you got any vacation plans for the family yet? To the Riviera Maya Resort perhaps?? The weather’s so warm lately it might be good to get away for a while.

Yes, the Mexican beach would definitely be a good idea. You’ll probably need to be bathing in sunblock first before you even hit the beach though. There are so many fun things for the whole family to do.

If you’re bringing young kids, it’s always a good idea to have them wear floats before letting them in the water, and ensure you always have someone keeping a sharp eye out for them.

no difference between the frying pan and the fire

The chatterbox mom has apparently just transferred her kids out of private school because according to her, in her own words, “they don’t teach at private school either so why waste so much money? If they are going to be teaching nothing anyways, might as well get it free than pay so much”.

She’s one of the many parents I know of who are transferring their kids out of private school. And of course, there’s always be the parents buying into the hype that their kids will get a better education in private school since they’re paying through their noses.

To each, his/her own, I guess. I can’t say which is better either way but apparently private schools have their own quirks too and having to pay oodles to suffer those same inadequacies can be even more frustrating.

the world’s biggest crapping family

I met a mother yesterday at Skye’s school who is perhaps the biggest chatterbox I’ve ever met in my life. The woman just would not stop talking. It’s not like I know this woman, okay? I’ve never met her in my life. Her kids have just transferred over from another school. That’s it.

But apparently it was just my luck that I happened to be standing beside her as we waited for the school bell to ring. The next thing I knew, she was blabbering away like there’s no tomorrow. I kept looking at my watch. She kept on blabbing!! It’s inconceivable that she does not know she’s being a pest. I think she just didn’t care.

It’s not like she had anything interesting or constructive to say. She’s just so full of crap. And I think she might even be quite proud of herself for being so full of IT! Hahaha, poor woman. According to Skye, her two kids are also notorious for blabbering crap non-stop. You reckon they’ve taken after their mom?
